Say What…..Black Eyed Peas for Dessert?

This past Friday Sour Grapes & Sante Wine Bar, held the first Pho Down at Pho Fusion, Asheville’s first and only Vietnamese restaurant.  My eyes were opened.  The highlight of the night for me was the dessert, a tender Black eyed pea Sweet Rice pudding in a coconut milk reduction.  Who knew black eyed peas could be so good, especially without the use of bacon…..

Here was the menu:

Meet and greet wine - Thierry - Weber Gruner Veltliner Landwein 2009

1st - Traditional Spaghetti Squash w/ marinated shrimp tossed in chef’s secret vinaigrette in Bibb lettuce along with Fresh Spring rolls served w/ peanut butter sauce paired with Wiengut Zahel Gemischter Satz Classic 2008

2nd - PHO FUSION delicate Eye Round of Beef or Seasonal Vegetable Pho (noodle soup in western terms) w/ fresh bean sprout, cilantro, basil and lime paired with Weingut Tinhof Blaufrankisch Classic 2007

3rd - Tender Black eyed pea Sweet Rice pudding in a coconut milk reduction garnshed with fresh, seasonal berries paired with Mayer am Pfarrplatz Riesling ʻAlseggʼ 2008

Chef Phan, my gratitude for a beautiful meal!
