Ronk
The Ronk estate is situated just about 100km from the Slovenian capital city - Ljubljana and 100km from the romantic Italian city - Venice. They are in the heart of the wine producing region Goriška Brda, to the South, in the warmest village named Vipolže, right on the border with Italy. In front of the estate, facing the South you can see the sea, and to the North, there are the Alps.
The Kristančič family enjoys this position as it blesses them with warm days mixed with a cool alpine breeze. The Brda region has sub-Mediterranean climate, with double the amount of precipitations towards the Mediterranean climate. The days are warm, the nights pleasantly cool, and the winters are mild. The very welcome Bora wind from the Vipava valley is halted at the Sabotin and Korada mountains. The wind purifies the air, chases the clouds away and brings out the sun.
Good grapes are fundamental for the quality of the wine, so they put a lot of effort and thought in the vine growing. They tend to have a lower return on the grapes, not to over-exhaust the vines and all the work is performed by hand.
Approximately 36.000 vines are spread on 9 hectares, divided in 12 parcels. Most of them are located in their home village Vipolže, others in Kozana and Cerovo, and the rest in the Italian wine growing region Collio.
The most produced wine is the autochthonous Ribolla, followed by Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. White wines represent 70 % of the total production. Natural yeasts, spontaneous fermentation and organic farming are philosophies of the family.
We were excited to launch our short, skin contact Pinot Gris project with Andrej in the summer of 2022. This wine is similar to what his father used to make in the mid-eighties. Be on the lookout, it will arrive in early 2023.
