The Weszeli estate is situated in the Kamptal region of Austria, and their 30 hectares of Gruner Veltliner and Riesling vineyards surround the town of Langenlois.
The Kamptal is a unique valley region in Austria and one that sits at an altitude of 200-300 meters. The summer days are very hot with the warm Pannonian winds that churn from the east through the area. Those winds meet the cooler Northwest winds and then the nights cool down significantly, causing high diurnal fluctuations. Grapes grown in the region possess finely delicate aromatics and naturally vibrant acidity.
The soil is primarily loess, gneiss, and clay, ideal for growing Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. The long growing season and sunny autumn days allow the grapes to reach full physiological maturity. The Kamptal has been long known to produce some of Austria’s finest white wines.
The tradition of the estate dates back to 1679. Davis Weszeli connects the old family knowledge with his own philosophy, the principle Terrafactum:
He places the vineyard itself at the very center of the work - there he shapes the character of his wines. He supports the balance of flora and fauna with every effort and exercises the pu- rist vinification with the same respect.
Thomas Ganser, formerly of Salomon Undhof, joined in time to make the 2015s and the results have been stunning.
Weszeli wines - pure, honest and genuine.
